Undergraduate (Level 8 NFQ , Credits 240 )

The new BCL (Law & Chinese Studies) allows you to undertake a degree in Irish law, whilst simultaneously acquiring a broad knowledge of Chinese law and a very high level of competence in Mandarin and Chinese legal terminology. During this degree you will gain comparative insights which inform an enhanced critical perspective on Irish law. The third year is spent at a leading Chinese law school  (any scholarships offered by a body external to UCD are beyond our control).

Assessment is through a combination of end-of-semester examinations, essays and group work projects.
Note: Some modules on this degree are taught through Chinese. The intensive nature of this degree means that you will not have time to take extra modules as part of UCD Horizons"

Graduates obtain a recognised degree in Irish law and are also particularly well placed to pursue legal careers with:
  • International law firms
  • European and international institutions
  • NGOs

    BCL (Law & Chinese Studies) graduates may wish to pursue further studies, including: LLM (International Human Rights), LLM (International Commercial Law) or LLM (Intellectual Property & Information Technology Law), all in UCD Sutherland School of Law.
    Both Renmin and CUPL have excellent graduate programmes and are among the best law schools in China.
