Digital and Social Media: An Introduction

This two-day course will demonstrate to users how best to use key web based digital and social media tools and platforms that are changing the way we source, communicate and distribute information online today. Content covered will include how to create personal profiles on social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. It will also cover setting up and using blogs as well as capturing and sharing video and photographic content through sites such as YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and Flickr. Practical demonstrations of using each of the social media platforms will be presented with an emphasis on the personal but will also reference where relevant some business application. The sessions are highly participative with classroom discussions and peer interaction promoted at all times.

This course is aimed at individuals looking to gain a greater practical understanding of how to use social media tools for both personal and business use. The course does not have any perquisites or makes any assumptions of prior ability other than that you are Internet and PC literate.
A List of blogs will be provided in the introduction session, as content changes so frequently in this space.

Keith Feighery is a leading Digital Marketer in Ireland who has over 15 years working in Technology and Digital Companies. He founded Digital Insights, a Digital Marketing Agency, in 2008 and works with businesses developing Digital Marketing Programmes. He lectures in Digital Marketing with UCD, Michael Smurfit Business School, TCD Business School and Irish Management Institute. He holds a First Class MA in Digital Media Technologies.

At the end of this course, a student should be able to:

  • Understand why and how to use different digital and social media tools for personal consumption
  • Practically apply learnings using social media tools
