AH 20050 - Modern Architecture (Credit) - 2017

This module offers students an opportunity to understand and appreciate modern architecture by providing an overview of twentieth-century architecture. The new ideas, prevailing social conditions, construction technologies and aesthetic impulses of the period will be described and analysed together with the work of leading architects. Students will be encouraged to describe and analyse local buildings to permit first-hand experience of architecture.

The following learning outcomes are subject to change: Students are expected to be able to:
Identify the principal agents of architectural innovation in the period; describe and discuss the plan, elevation and section of a modern building, as well as the relationship to material and cultural context of its interior and exterior; describe and analyse the works of prominent architects and determine their relationships and influence upon international practice; Understand the ideas put forward in the principal architectural texts of the period; relate knowledge acquired in class to an understanding of the local built environment.

Upgrading from audit to credit:  You may upgrade from being an audit student to a credit student up to three weeks into term.  Please note, however, that you can't change back to being an audit student - if you decide not to complete the assignments and/or sit the exams, this will appear on your academic record.

Refunds
Refunds may in some instances be available for extenuating circumstances, such as serious illness, within two weeks of the start of the module.  Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing, with supporting documents where appropriate.
