IS30070 - Cybersociety? Technol., Cult. & Communication (Credit) -2017

The module examines anthropological perspectives on information and technology, and empirical evidence regarding the impact of new technologies on communities and groups. Topics will include the sociology of information, the impact of social media, global culture, virtual communities, and the transformation of community. Students will conduct empirical research on the impact of new communication technologies (including, but not restricted to, social media) on a specific social group or set of social practices, and use their case study as the basis for discussion in class.

Upgrading from audit to credit:  You may upgrade from being an audit student to a credit student up to three weeks into term.
