Detailed Information

GEOG30830 - G.I.S. - Geographic Information Systems (Credit)- 2017 Sem 2

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow the acquisition, storage and analysis of spatial data, that is, data that can be georeferenced. GIS combine two of the major strands in geographic research: spatial analysis and cartography. This course will use QGIS, an open GIS software package, to examine geographic topics. While learning the software is an important part of the course, its focus is on the analysis and visualisation of geographic data and on conducting research on substantive and topical issues. A significant part of your learning will be self-directed and the lectures will focus on broad analytic themes that GIS is designed to handle.
