GRC10200 - Classical Greece* (Audit) - 2017

This module introduce students to the history and culture of ancient Greece in the Classical period (c. 500-330 BC). This is when the Persians invaded Greece, and were defeated at Marathon, Salamis and Plataea, when Athens and Sparta competed for dominance, and when many of the great works of Greek art and literature were created. You will explore aspects of the political, social and cultural history of the Greek city-state (polis), focussing primarily on Athens. A key feature of this module is the emphasis on how different types of primary source material can be used to achieve a rounded picture of the Classical Greek world.
