Detailed Information
This module introduces the student to Crime in Ireland from a comparative perspective, to the elements of the Criminal Justice system and to the official Justice and Social Policy responses to crime. The course includes a critical understanding of crime statistics and focuses on a number of key themes: Youth Crime; Restorative Justice; Penal Policy; Victimology; Desistance, Human Rights and Criminological Theory. Guest lecturers who are practitioners or service providers complement the core lecturer to provide the student with an understanding of a range of core services provided by An Garda Siochana, the Probation Service and other NGOs in the area of crime and crime prevention.

Upgrading from audit to credit
You may upgrade from being an audit student to a credit student up to three weeks into term. Please note, however, that you can't change back to being an audit student - if you decide not to complete the assignments and/or sit the exams, this will appear on your academic record.

Refunds
Refunds may in some instances be available for extenuating circumstances, such as serious illness, within two weeks of the start of the module. Requests for refunds must be submitted in writing, with supporting documents where appropriate.
