Detailed Information
Various films raise important philosophical questions, such as “does the external world really exist?”, “are we morally responsible for all of the consequences of our actions?’, or “is happiness more than a mental state?”, or "is it fair to punish an amnesiac for a crime they cannot remember?" In this module, we will watch films through the eyes of a philosopher. There will be regular screenings of films in addition to companion lectures in which we will discuss the philosophical issues they raise. Learning about philosophy through film is an excellent way to get acquainted with different areas in philosophy, and to think more deeply and systematically about films themselves.
