Detailed Information
The National Folklore Collection at University College Dublin is one of the largest collections of oral and ethnological material in the world. The audio and film recordings, manuscripts and rare printed materials held in the Collection span many aspects of human endeavour, from material culture to oral literature, language and artistic expression. Much of this material was amassed by predecessors to the NFC, including the Irish Folklore Commission (1935-1970, whose collections have been inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register) and the Department of Irish Folklore, UCD (1970-2005).
