AE-LN248 - Reading Dublin (One City One Book)

This course is designed to tie in with events in the Dublin: One City, One Book festival 2018 culminating in an extended engagement with the selected title and making full use of events staged by Dublin City Libraries. Students read a variety of books. The books chosen may relate thematically to the 2018 One City One Book choice, or chronologically or through their connection with Dublin or the author or be of other cognate association. No prior knowledge or skills are required for this course beyond an enjoyment and an interest in reading and in finding out more about your city

Completing this course provides you with an indepth understanding of Dublin from the writers who have lived here and made this city their subject. This course is designed to tie in with events in the Dublin: One City, One Book festival 2018 culminating in an extended engagement with the 2018 selected title and making full use of events staged by Dublin City Libraries. Students read a variety of books. The books chosen may relate thematically to the 2018 One City One Book choice, or chronologically or through their connection with Dublin or author or be connected through another form of cognate association.

 The course will consider the changing place of Dublin in literature and examine different ways the city has been represented by writers. No prior knowledge or skills are required for this course beyond an enjoyment and an interest in reading and in finding out more about your city

The 2018 One City One Book selection and other cognate titles as decided when 2018 title is announced 

Those interested in combining an interest and enjoyment of reading with finding out more about the culture and literature of Ireland.

The course structure will be based on the 2018 book with other titles chosen as seem cognate with it as linked thematically, chronologically or in their connection to Dublin or the author or via other cognate association. 

 

Garrett Fagan has taught at universities in Dublin and at Warwick University in the UK. He has interests in Renaissance literature, legal - literary relations and Anglo Irish writing.
