Event Overview: Have you ever nearly finalised a research grant proposal and find yourself leaving the impact section until last because you are unsure of how to even start? If so, this workshop is for you!
This 1.5 hour workshop is suitable for researchers and research support staff at all career stages who are keen to develop their understanding of impact.
Event Objectives: Research impact is now a fundamental criterion in nearly all research proposals to major funding bodies. The economic and societal element of research impact needs be considered up-front and throughout the research process in order to generate better research outcomes and contribute to greater impact. This workshop aims to assist researchers in understanding research impact, how to plan for impact and in developing impact sections for funding proposals.
Event Content: This workshop will cover the following areas:
• Overview of economic and societal research impact and its importance in the current funding landscape
• Introduction to the UCD Planning Impact Canvas (developed to support UCD researchers to develop impact statements for research proposals)
• Worked example of canvas in groups
• Introduction to UCD impact supports including those on the UCD Impact Web Portal

As a result of this workshop participants will:
• Increase their understanding of research impact and its importance
• Improve their ability to communicate the potential impact of their research
• Understand UCD tools and supports available to support research impact
