| This medal commemorated Rev. Dr J.D. McCrea, OFM (1934-1993), an acknowledged expect on Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, who introduced into UCD Modern Relativity Theory and the coordinate-free approach to Differential Geometry. Dr McCrea taught in the Mathematical Physics Department from 1968 until his death. The medal, endowed by the Irish Franciscans and graduates of the Mathematical Physics Department and staff, is awarded to the student who obtains First Class Honours (3.68 GPS or 85% or higher) in the MA/MSc Degree Examinations with the highest marks in Relativity Theory. |
