Programme Description:
Long Description: John Dean, who founded the first Department of Library and Information Studies in the mid-1970s and who was appointed the first Professor of Library and Information Studies in 1976, made a bequest in his will in which he donated €30,000 “to provide an annual award to either a Diploma or Master’s student, who in the opinion of the Department, shows the greatest potential for success in the future”.

Students will be eligible if they are registered in one of the postgraduate programmes offered by the School.
The recipient of the award will be judged by two criteria:
1) the student's performance in the qualifying postgraduate programme
2) a research proposal submitted by the student, intended to both advance the student's career and promote and enhance the reputation and educational efforts of the School.
Applicants will be evaluated by a Selection Committee appointed by the Head of School. At the discretion of the Selection Committee, the prize may be withheld in any year if no candidate obtains a sufficiently high standard.
