Long Description: The School of Geography was newly (re-) established in September 2015 as part of the University restructuring process. The School recognises the important role of our students within the University community and the importance of academic excellence. We wish to recognise outstanding academic achievement within our graduating student cohort. Prof Anne Buttimer is one of the most outstanding geographers of the discipline and has been recognised internationally and nationally through wards including the AAG Lifetime Achievement Award, Vautrin Lud Prize (highest award in the field of geography) and through her Presidency of the International Geographical Union. Prof Buttimer is Emeritus Professor of Geography at University College Dublin and the school wishes to acknowledge her standing in the School and discipline through this new student award.
