Long Description:	This medal was established in 2004 to mark the retirement of Professor Michael McCarthy who held the chair of art history at UCD from 1994-2004. Among his achievements was the establishment and direction of a taught MA in European and Irish architectural history. His commitment to post-graduate students is recorded in this medal which is awarded annually to the candidate, majoring in Art History, who obtains the highest GPA in the taught MA programme.
