Title: The Roger McHugh Memorial Award (Anglo Irish Literature)
Award Type: Scholarship
Programme Description:
Long Description: This award was established in memory of Roger McHugh, the founding Professor of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama, who taught at UCD until the late 1970s. It was made possible through the kindness of Professor McHugh’s wife, Patricia, and children, Muireann, Fíona, Conor and Cian. It commemorates his pioneering work as a scholar, editor and teacher and his achievement in setting up a world-class postgraduate programme in the subject.

The purpose of the award is to celebrate the achievement and scholarship of the first Professor of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at UCD: an inspirational role model for students. The award is for academic excellence.

The fund will be used to provide a scholarship bursary of no less than €5,000 for a doctoral student pursuing a PhD in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at University College Dublin. Where funds permit, the bursary may be offered for more than one year, and for a maximum of four years, subject to satisfactory performance by the student each year.

In the event of the recipient’s subsequently receiving an award of greater financial value (e.g. IRC Government of Ireland doctoral fellowship), the award will cease at the end of the academic year in question and will be re-advertised where funds permit.

For 2015/16, the School invites potential candidates to apply for the award. Enquiries regarding the application process can be submitted via email address: Hilary.gow@ucd.ie, The closing deadline for receipt of complete applications is by no later than 30 June 2015.
