Title: The Anne O’Brien Clinical Prize (Professional Masters)
Award Type: Prize
Programme Description:
Long Description: The Irish Society of Chartered physiotherapists awards a prize to each Physiotherapy programme in Ireland for the student who achieves the highest clinical grade in the final year of their programme, called the Anne O’ Brien Prize. The Prize name is the same for all Physiotherapy programmes in the Republic of Ireland.
This prize has existed for the UCD BSc Physiotherapy Programme since 2000.
UCD began a new 2 year graduate entry Physiotherapy programme in 2012 called the Professional Masters in Physiotherapy Programme. This proposal is to introduce this award for the Professional Masters in Physiotherapy Programme.
The Society first introduced an annual student award in 1987 for clinical assessment and introduced a second one in 2000 for BSc Physiotherapy Programmes

In light of changes and developments in physiotherapy education, and following a consultation with the HEIs, the Board of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists reviewed its Student Awards criteria in 2019. The revised criteria are outlined below and now include Master level pre-registration physiotherapy programmes. Until 2012, Physiotherapy entry to practice programmes were at BSc level. Since 2012, there are also a number of Master level entry to practice programmes, (UCD, UCC, UL; known professionally as Master level pre-registration programmes)

The Anne O’Brien prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest performance in Clinical Assessment in final year in each pre-registration physiotherapy programme in Ireland in all of the Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) that provide physiotherapy education in Ireland.

In the event of a tie, clinical grades are reviewed by the Programme Director and Associate Dean of Physiotherapy. The prize is then awarded to the student who achieves the highest grades on their Clinical Assessment Form on clinical education modules for both years of the 2 year programme. On the Professional Masters of Physiotherapy Programme, these modules are: Clinical Placement 1 (PHTY 303400, Clinical Placement 2 (PHTY 30350), Clinical Placement 3 ( PHTY 30360), Clinical Placement 4 (PHTY40930), Clinical Placement 5, (PHTY 40760)
