Rationale for Establishment
The strategic objectives of the UCD-CFS are (i) to prevent acute illness by making food safer, through the development of interventions along the food chain-reducing microbial and chemical contamination; (ii) through co-operation with the food industry develop scientific methodology, to facilitate Irish brand protection in the market place by the development of innovative diagnostic strategies; and (iii) contribute to a broadened public health debate in partnership with the food industry and other stakeholders to devise targeted strategies aimed at reducing chronic adverse health effects associated with inappropriate consumption patterns.
