Organisational behaviour explores the often curious world of human behaviour in groups, organisations, and the workplace. Why do people behave as they do? Why do we sometimes behave differently in an structured organisational setting than we would as individuals? Why is it hard to change behaviour and what are the challenges faced within that process? And why do leaders and managers often fail to get the outcomes they seek?

This module explores issues like individual differences in perception, personality and learning, teamwork, communication, change, motivation, leadership, decision making, conflict, power and politics, culture and technology. Insights about organisational behaviour can be used to diagnose problems, increase effectiveness, influence outcomes, question assumptions, situate management practices, advance human interests – to simply better understand and interpret what is going on!

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should will be expected to be able to:
(a) explain and evaluate theories of individual, group and organisational behaviours and processes,
(b) understand better how to work successfully on their own and with others,
(c) reflect on their own assumptions about behaviour and how it is influenced by their own experience, and can also be can be influenced by organisational structures and settings, and
(d) to analyse organisational behaviour challenges and offer relevant solutions to overcome them.

Exploration of topics such as learning, teams/groups, perception, personality, communication, change, motivation, work design, leadership, decision making, power, conflict, politics, culture, and technology.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students will receive class/group level feedback on first submissions of recurring components like continuous contributions or follow on components within 2 weeks after the submission deadline. In addition, individual feedback in the form of grades, participation or task completion will be posted on Brightspace within twenty working days of the submission deadline. Students will also provide formative feedback to their peers after the completion of a group component to facilitate group work Supplementary individual feedback will be given upon written request.
