Part 1 – Accounting Information Systems
After completing this part of the module, a student should be able to:
- Describe the key technologies that have enabled the development of Accounting Information Systems.
- Define an Accounting Information System (AIS) and describe its basic functions.
- Describe the major business processes present in most companies.
- Discuss how organizations use enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to process transactions and provide information.
- Document an accounting process using Data Flow Diagrams, Flow Charts and Business Process Diagrams.
- Recognise the major business documents used in the revenue cycle.
- Describe the basic business activities and related information processing operations performed in the revenue cycle on the SAP byDesign Accounting System.
- Describe how automation of business activities and the related information processing operations can benefit companies.
- Identify major threats in the revenue cycle and evaluate the adequacy of various control procedures for dealing with those threats.
- Develop basic python programs to analyse accounting data
Part 2 – AI in Accountancy and Business
After completing this part of the module, a student should be able to:
- Describe the development of AI technologies in business.
- Develop basic python programs to apply AI techniques to accountancy problems
Part 3 – Accounting Blockchains
After completing this section, a student should be able to:
- Describe the core elements of blockchain technology.
- Identify the features of blockchain technology that could potentaiily be useful in solving accounting problems.
- Explore the use-cases for accounting blockchains.
