MIS40930 Management Support Systems

Management Support Systems are the information technology based systems that support managerial and professional work. These systems include Decision Support Systems (DSS), Expert Systems and Business Intelligence (BI). The course will also look at the role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in business and some of the implications of new technologies and techniques for the support of management decision making.

On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Distinguish the distinct characteristics and role of different types of Management Support (IT)
- Appreciate the role of the various participants in the development of Management Support Systems
- Assess the importance of the current developments in Management Support Systems
- Use examples of Management Support Systems software to support decisions
