BMGT44680 Finance & Funding for New Vent

In this module participants will learn the importance of financial information and how to use financial statements in entrepreneurial decision making, as well as major funding options for new ventures and strategies for accessing financial capital. Learning will be applicable to both stand-alone new businesses and entrepreneurial projects in existing firms. The module will cover core concepts in finance such as value, return, risk, portfolio theory, and time value of money, as well as the capital budgeting process. Participants will also learn about the primary equity and debt instruments available to fund new ventures, how to select the most appropriate funding for different ventures and how to attract funding and negotiate terms.

Participants completing this module will be able to:
- Outline, discuss and apply the appropriate financial analyses required to make decisions about new venture development and scaling
- Construct and analyse the major financial statements that a new venture needs for planning and reporting purposes
- Identify the funding requirements of a variety of businesses at different stages of development, and in different fields
- Identify the most appropriate funding options for a particular business
- Attract and negotiate the most appropriate funding for a business
