BMGT45110 Developing Cultural Competence

Being able to navigate and adapt to differences among individuals, groups and societies is a key skill for management professionals. Building on the latest research into cultural intelligence, this module will provide you with a conceptual understanding and practical tools and skills required to function effectively across national, ethnic and organisational boundaries and in diverse groups. The module will guide you through a series of tasks to increase your self-awareness about who you are and how you relate to others of different cultural backgrounds, and enable you to work on your own cultural competence.

Learning Outcomes:

The focus of the module is on personal development. Upon completion of the module, you can expect the following outcomes:

- A greater understanding of your own motivation, cultural values, and strengths and weaknesses in working in diverse contexts
- Knowledge of how cultures differ, and how to capitalise on the similarities and leverage on the differences across cultures in practice
- An ability to apply the theories and tools studied in this module to analyse and respond to real-life business situations
- An enhanced cultural competence
