On successful completion of this module the student will understand:
The development of the Irish aviation industry, global trends in the aviation markets and an appreciation of the impact of Brexit and COVID-19
How to interpret airline financial results and statements, how to compare different airlines and how to value airlines
The workings of the aviation financing markets and the sources of funding and the individual funding instruments such as cashflow, bank loans and capital markets instruments such as bonds and secured funding, leasing and the role of equity.
An appreciation of the different approaches between equity and debt investors and how to produce a financing plan.
How to evaluate and quantify financial markets risk for the aviation sector and how to mitigate these risks through financial instruments while also taking into account accounting issues, counter-party issues and the hedging activities of competitors.
