Electricity is a unique commodity where market forces meet the forces of physics. This course introduces students to the theory and practice of liberalized electricity markets. The course covers diverse topics as electricity market liberalization, electricity marketplaces, electricity price formation, electricity market designs, electricity as physical and financial commodity, and electricity trading and risk management.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will acquire detailed understanding of how liberalized electricity markets work with a particular focus on Europe. Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Understand diverse electricity marketplaces (power exchanges, traded products, market structure, locational pricing).
2. Comprehend electricity trading and apply adequate risk management and hedging techniques.
