HRM40690 Managing Workplace Learning

This course critically assesses the issue of workplace learning. It provides a forum for discussing the context within which human resource development (HRD) takes place, the linkage of HRD and business strategy, how HRD adds value, the changing role of the HRD practitioner, approaches to identifying and meeting learning and development needs and new developments and trends in meeting HRD needs. Topics covered will include: strategic business-led human resource development, HRD roles and relationships, learning and transfer of learning, the concept of blended learning (training, e-learning, development processes), career management, and assessing workplace learning strategies.

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module, students should be able to understand and evalutate the concepts and context of HRD and WL; evaluate the strategic business-led approach to WL and its link to key business goals; consider and explore the key issues surrounding HRD and its design and delivery in organisations; evaluate learning and the transfer of learning, theories, process and outcomes; evaluate the problems and issues assoctiated with WL and HRD; consider the strategically oriented cycle fo HRD activities, including issues such as ?blended? learning; evaluate HRD evaluation, its importance, scope and expected benefits; consider special issues in HRD and WL, including managing diversity and cross-cultural learning
