Students completing the MSc Business (International Business) have an option to undertake a major piece of research on a topic of their choice andwhich is pertinent to IB (or a related area). The research methods module is designed to familiarize students with the principles and practice ofcompleting business and academic research projects and the dissertation process provides an opportunity for practice. It commences at the beginningof Spring with students completing their formal research proposal. Feedback is provided on the proposal and guidance given to progress theresearch. Students then commence the literature review and during the Summer term, attention is paid to data collection and the project completion.This exercise is largely self-directed and ideal for individuals who wish to display their business research skills along with an ability for creative thinkingand reflection. IB students are supported by way of advisory sessions and seminars throughout the process a nd detailed guidelines and gradedescriptors are provided.

What will I learn?

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module students will be expected to be able to 1. Identify the characteristics of good quality research - business or academic 2.Select a research problem and set out a plan for its resolution 3. Write a critical literature review and explain how it can be used to inform a researchproject; 4. Collect, manage and analyse data using a variety of research methods; 5. Interpret the research findings and make recommendations forfurther research and 6. Organise, structure and write up a formal dissertation as per the guideliness provided.
