Upon successful completion of this module students should have acquired the following competencies and capabilities:
1. Be capable of critically appraising the relevance of a research question in the context of contemporary conceptual and empirical debates in the strategy literature and justifying the contributions that researching this question can make to the literature.
2. Analyse a literature review to characterize the main theoretical arguments made, assess the suitability of these theories in addressing the research question, and appraise the coherence of the linkage between this theory(s) and the empirical evidence and implications of a paper.
3. Demonstrate an ability (communicated verbally and in writing) to assess the conditions under which ideas and/or evidence presented by the authors of a research paper ought to be accepted by readers and the boundary conditions under which these arguments and evidence are a solid foundation upon which to base a strategic decision.
4. Communicate verbally and in writing the ability to compare and contrast a selection of research designs and a capacity to appraise the circumstances under which the application of various designs are appropriate
5. Be able to independently develop a research proposal to undertake research in the domain of strategic management
6. Demonstrate via a written research proposal the capability to formulate a research problem, analyze and synthesize relevant academic literature, and choose an appropriate research design
