BMGT43710 Project Risk Management

Academic Year 2020/2021

Project risk management is the process of identifying, quantifying, responding to and controlling the factors that could jeopardise a project’s success. Every project risk management technique has at its heart one central purpose: dealing with uncertainty.

Because of the nature of uncertainty, project risk management is an imperfect discipline: it is impossible to identify, understand and control every risk that could affect a project’s outcomes. Nonetheless the benefits of project risk management are considerable: for example, risks are at least reduced, project costs are likely to be lower, project planning is improved, and even the commitment of key stakeholders may be enhanced.

This module explores the principles, practice and limitations of project risk management.
