BMGT43670 Procurement & Contract Mgt

Academic Year 2020/2021

This module aims to provide students with knowledge and skills that are relevant to managing Procurement and Contract Management processes in project settings.

In order to deliver value to internal and external stakeholders, project managers often outsource project tasks to the external parties that are best equipped to undertake them. This involves a number of important considerations such as which tasks need to be outsourced, which contractors are best prepared to fulfil these tasks, how to design tenders and contracts, how to conduct negotiations effectively and how to manage supplier relationships and risks. In addition, project managers need to be aware of the procurement processes employed by their external clients to secure the contract under favourable conditions and manage pertinent risks.

The module addresses a broad range of knowledge areas in both contemporary research and managerial practice that are relevant to arriving at appropriate procurement decisions. After the module, the student is able to identify, critically assess, and apply various concepts, tools, and frameworks to understand and address complex procurement challenges encountered in project settings.
