Module Description
This module is designed for students who are not undertaking a business degree. The overarching purpose of this module is to give you an appreciation of the business/management toolkit and how to use it in your core discipline.

We will look at leadership, management and some control mechanisms that managers use. You will also learn how to be more effective in your group assignments. You should also be able to improve your study effectiveness by actively using the material we will cover.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module you should be able to:

1.Understand the principal ideas and developments in the theory and practice of management
2.Create a plan for your own self development, understanding the importance of planning as a critical component in the process of business strategy development
3.Discuss the environment of management with particular reference to context.
4.Identify the challenges of organisational development, leadership and teamwork in the context of an organisation’s environment.
5.Explain the nature of control in management.

Students from the following Programmes are excluded from registering to this module - Bachelor of Commerce; Bachelor of Commerce (International); Bachelor of Business and Law; BSc Economics & Finance; BSc Business. Students from these programmes who register to this module will have their registration dropped.

Learning Recommendations:

The module is designed for students from a non business background who wish to gain insights on management issues in the business world. It is aimed particularly at students pursuing medicine, engineering, social science who may in the future wish to set up / or get involved in business management.
