HRM2003D Management Practice 2

Academic Year 2023/2024

The overall purpose of this module is to provide students with an opportunity to apply the theoretical frameworks reviewed in the literature review prepared as part of HRM2001D Management Practice 1 in the context of a particular organisation – i.e. the module will allow students an opportunity to compare the ‘theory’ surrounding a particular topic against the ‘practice’ in a selected organisation. The focus is on the application of what students have learned in Autumn to a small piece of in-company research (i.e. in the organisation selected at the start of Autumn). It builds on the analytical skilsl developed in BMGT1009D.

In essence, the module requires students to review the research question and research objectives and refine where necessary; design a piece of research; execute the research; write up the research findings and compare the findings with the academic literature reviewed in Autumn; make recommendations to the organisation on how the practice(s) in question could be improved upon; and prepare a presentation summarising the main points from the research findings, comparison of the literature and research findings and the recommendations to the organisation.
