The aim of this module is to address contemporary Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management topics which are particularly relevant to the local environment in Sri Lanka. Among the topics to be addressed may include: globalisation, multinationals HRM and industrial relations; international and local trends in trade union density and collective bargaining; the role of the State in HRM and industrial relations; trends in industrial conflict and conflict resolution -conventional and alternative dispute resolution processes; and research on high-performance human resource management and its effects.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module you should be able to:Demonstrate an ability to critically discuss contents of the module and your workplace experience.Critically appraise current debates in the literature on the course topics covered.Describe and assess research findings related to the areas examined. Assess the features of, and trends in, IR & HRM in foreign-owned multi-national companies.Identify likely future developments and trends in the field of industrial relations and human resource management, both locally and internationally.
