The Msc in Digital Information Management was developed for people interested in how information is created, organised, accessed and maintained over time in organisations.  Digital information management is not just about having the ability to execute technical functions- it requires an understanding of the technical, socio-cultural and economic issues associated with managing information over time in a digital world.

The master’s degree combines core elements of digital preservation and curation as well as area-specific tracks with specialised modules to prepare you to work in different sectors.  You will learn from academic and industry leaders in Ireland about how to manage “born digital” and digitised materials in a variety of formats including text, image, audio and video.    You will explore the challenges of maintaining digital information and acquire the skills needed to liase with technologists about data storage and data management issues.

    Summarize the challenges and approaches to maintaining digital material.

    Outline the key requirements and standards for digital information management.

    Describe the elements of the digital curation lifecycle and other relevant models.

    Develop and apply policies and standards for and associated with stages of the digital curation lifecycle.

    Construct plans for maintaining digital material in different environments.

    Analyze different applications of the digital curation lifecycle to simulated events.

    Compare, contrast, and utilise tools for managing digital information over time.

    Justify the need for digital information management practices in a variety of environments.

    Communicate the need for long term access to digital material to different audiences.

    Choose the appropriate method for maintaining different types of digital material.

    Manage different aspects of a digital curation project.

    Understand digital information management in a specialised sector.
