The Graduate Certificate in Statistics is a part-time programme over two trimesters.

The programme provides the students with both foundational modules on probability and statistics, as well as a wide range of more advanced and specialised statistics modules. The foundational modules offer a formal preparation on the mathematical aspects of probability and statistics. At the same time, the students gain access to advanced statistics modules which allow them to specialise in a particular area of interest.

This programme is ideal for part-time students who are interested in gaining an advanced knowledge of a specific area of statistics, in that the programme offers a streamlined pathway into achieving this goal, within two trimesters. In addition, the programme can be used to gain access to other graduate degrees, such as the EMOS-certified MA Statistics or the MSc Statistical Data Science.

The Graduate Certificate in Statistics does not require any prior knowledge of statistics, however, a demonstrated numerical ability is essential.

The Graduate Certificate in Statistics is aimed at students who have an undergraduate degree in a discipline related to Statistics and with numerate skills. Compulsory modules are intended to ensure that all students have a formal preparation on probability and statistics, while optional modules include a wide range of advanced statistical methods and applications. The compulsory modules are delivered face-to-face, whereas the option modules include both face-to-face and fully-online modules.

This programme is aimed at students and professionals who have an undergraduate degree which has a focus on mathematics, and who wish to gain a deeper understanding of a particular area of statistics. The programme allows the students to obtain an excellent formal training on the foundations of probability and statistics, and to focus and specialise on a particular area of statistics that they choose. The programme  will serve professionals who are interested in gaining a deep understanding of a particular area of statistics and data science, but it can also serve students who are interested in pursuing a study career focussed on statistics and data science. In just two trimesters of part-time study, the Graduate Certificate in Statistics can provide a streamlined pathway into graduate programmes such as the MSc Statistics and the EMOS-certified MA Statistics.

Applicants must have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a numerate discipline or a cognate subject area.

Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0 in each element), or equivalent.
