The BBL degree combines law and business into a single degree, providing you with an ideal skill-set for the commercial world and offering valuable career flexibility. BBL graduates are uniquely equipped with the analytical and advocacy skills that arise from a legal training, combined with the numeracy and financial literacy of a business degree.

This programme is for students who wish to combine law and business in a single degree, to develop a skill-set appropriate to both business and law, as well as knowledge, skills and experience applicable in a wide variety of other careers. In particular, the programme enable student to proceed to training as lawyers or business professional in Ireland and elsewhere.

Beyond developing a very high level of personal competence in both fields, the degree seeks to produce graduate who will be reflective, ethical and responsible in using those abilities at work and in the community.

In particular, the learning environment assists students to develop the skills in research, analysis and advocacy that the law curriculum particularly provides and the numeracy, financial literacy and commercial awareness that are distinctive of business education. Students have diverse opportunities, notably through tutorials and small-group teaching to develop their skills in research, teamwork, oral and written communication and life skills for future employment.

Teaching, learning and assessment approaches include tutorials, legal writing and research exercises, advocacy and mooting, seminars, work placements, case studies, simulations of professional and business practice service learning and company projects.

  • Communicate business and legal concepts, arguments and solutions in a professional, informed and accessible manner to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Critically appreciate the interplay and interdependencies of business functions.
  • Demonstrate an active awareness of the ethical, social and professional values associated with law and business.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of appropriate methods, tools and techniques for identifying and resolving business problems.
  • Develop independent and collaborative lifelong learning skills.

BBL students can select the modules necessary for legal professional recognition, which will allow you to go on to qualify as a solicitor and barrister, and work in legal practices in Ireland or abroad. Graduates can also pursue careers in:

  • Accountancy
  • Finance
  • Tax consultancy
  • Corporate banking
  • Business analysis

    BBL graduates also have the option of pursuing postgraduate qualifications in either Law or Business.
