The BBS (Finance) programme is aimed at those wishing to develop a career in business and particularly in an area related to finance and financial services (Purpose).  We aspire to produce graduates that, over the long-term, will assume senior management positions, particularly in the finance and financial services sector and who will have a significant impact on the general development of business both locally and internationally (education and subject/discipline/professional values).  We aim to provide a learning environment that encourages programme participants to explore business practices and theories, on an individual and team basis, so they can develop their own and their team’s capacities for critical enquiry, reflective practice, leadership and interpersonal skills.  The BBS curriculum is designed to develop future senior managers and business leaders through a wide variety of learning activities.  These activities focus on developing informed thinkers, graduates who are agile and have a development mindset and who are able to talk about, apply and act upon what they know and have the ambition and courage to collaborate, solve problems and contribute to business and society (the nature of the learning environment for students).  The programme draws upon teaching, learning and assessment approaches that help prepare students for the business environment, including case studies, class discussions, presentations, project work that requires students to source information and conduct small pieces of secondary research on general business and finance topics (the key approaches to teaching, learning and assessment).

  • Analyse specific business case studies or problems and formulate a report detailing the issues and recommended actions. (PG2)
  • Apply appropriate methods, tools and techniques for identifying, analysing and resolving business problems within functional and across functional business areas. (PG1)
  • Conduct secondary research on finance-related issues and report on the findings and draw appropriate conclusions. (PG2)
  • Demonstrate an awareness of ethical values and business issues concerning the advancement of the broader societal ‘good’. (PG4)
  • Demonstrate capacity for problem solving collaboratively and individually. (PG3)
  • Develop collaborative learning and team-work skills by engaging in module-related team activities. (PG3)
  • Display the ability to think critically and analytically about business practices and their impact on society (PG4).
  • Explain current theoretical underpinnings of business, the management of organisations and finance. (PG1)
  • Prepare a short business presentation (written and/or oral) on a current business issue. (PG2)
