VNUR30580 Veterinary Nursing Professional and Clinical Skills I

Academic Year 2020/2021

The aim of this module is to enable students to develop the professional and clinical skills needed to transition into the veterinary nursing profession. The module will be delivered using a mixture of teaching and learning approaches including; lectures, workshops, tutorials, practical classes, and online resources. Module content in the Autumn Trimester (Sept-Dec) will be focused on the development of professional skills (associated with reflection and lifelong learning) and will be delivered entirely online for 2020-21. The second half of the module and content in the Spring Trimester will focus on the development of clinical skills and will be delivered using a blended approach.

Conduct health and safety risk assessments for various aspects of a veterinary practice setting
Describe the steps involved in reflective practice
Complete the reflective practice cycle
Identify key parts of a peer-reviewed journal article
Summarize peer-reviewed journal articles
Interpret information from various sources to inform veterinary patient care in a clinical scenario
Demonstrate further development of veterinary nursing skills in the areas of; medical nursing; surgical nursing; anesthesia
Demonstrate further development of client and team communication skills
Prepare a written proposal for a veterinary nursing clinic to be introduced in practice based on practice management theory
