On completion of this module, the student will:
have a greater understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the digestive, cardiovascular and respiratory systems and reproductive and urinary systems and should be able to:
-explain the normal structure and function of these systems
-describe the basic anatomy and physiological concepts of these systems
-identify the major anatomical subdivisions within the the body and their components
-demonstrate anatomical location in a living animal and an anatomical specimen
-explain the physiological mechanisms taught
-explain basic biochemistry underpinning metabolism, fluid balance and nutrition
-appreciate comparative anatomy and physiology
Comparative anatomy and physiology of the following systems in commonly seen veterinary species and exotics:
-Respiratory system
-Cardiovascular system (including circulation)
-Urogenital systems
-Digestive system of ruminants and non-ruminants.
Basic Biochemistry Principles and those underpinning
-Nutrition, fluid balance and metabolism.
-Problem-based learning
Practicals and ePracticals
-Structure, function and location of the systems covered in the module
-Histology of selected systems covered in the module
Conversation classes
-To discuss a paper on the topics covered in the module

Continuous Assessment: After each of the 4 practicals/epracticals have been completed, a quiz must be attempted and/or the practical booklet must be submitted. Each continuous assessment is worth 7.5% for a total of 30%. |

• Feedback individually to students, on an activity or draft prior to summative assessment

Week 9: Group/Class feedback will be provided to the students on the biochemistry MCQ in week 7. The feedback will focus on which topics/type of questions the class in general struggled with. During the trimester. Once practical continuous assessments have been submitted, the answers will be given. Individual feedback will be provided to any student who requests it. This will focus on the topics/type of questions the students found challenging. Week 10 To assist the students with essay writing, the students have the opportunity for feedback on their essay writing (not part of the formal assessment). Students can submit the answer to one of the previous year's exam questions and the module co-ordinator will provide a grade and feedback.
