Academic Year 2023/2024

Module Coordinator: Marie-Pauline Maurin (marie-pauline.maurin@ucd.ie; office H016; phone 716 6016)
Module Credits: 10 ECTS (1 ECTS = 20-25 hours of student learning)
Stage: 5
Trimester: UCD Year-Long
Module Contact Hours: 180 hours
Independent Hours of Study: 60 hours

The objective of this module is to build generic and species-specific surgical skills and competencies through problem-solving and evidence-based learning. Previous training should ensure that veterinary students have received not only a good grounding in theoretical surgical subjects but also a broad education in more general areas such as problem-solving skills, obtaining an academic level of thought and work, appropriate social/communication skills and awareness of the importance of lifelong learning.
During this rotation, the greatest emphasis is placed upon training of a clinical nature, learning "day one" competencies required for registration as a veterinary practitioner.
Rotation are full time and may include evening and weekend on call duties.
