The aim of this Programme is to provide an online course to meet the training requirements of the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) in the knowledge, responsibilities and regulatory requirements for conducting animal studies as laid down in Article 23 of Directive 2010/63/EU. The Programme requires completion of 2 core units and one elective unit following which participant will be assessed for award of TEARAP Certificate.

Learning Outcomes:

Having successfully completed this module, participants should have understanding of:
1. EU-Directive 2010/63/EU on protection of animals used for scientific purpose.
2. Their responsibilities and regulatory requirements when undertaking animal studies for teaching or research purposes.
3. Animal welfare and application of 3R principles in their research and teaching.
4. Basic principles of study design and Bio-statistics.
5. Basic animal physiology.
6. Competency requirement in basic and routine animal care procedures including euthanasia.
7. Competency requirement in relevant experimental procedures.
8. Maintainance of experiment and training records.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module is delivered via online using recorded lectures. A supplementary folder is included with several online resources for the students to access and engage. The students can also contact the programme office with any queries related to the course content where any clarifications are required. 
Requirements, Exclusions and Recommendations
Learning Recommendations:

Applicants are required to have a degree with appropriate background in the biological sciences.
Applicants will require a computer with a webcam and reliable high-speed broadband Internet access as well as an intermediate level of IT skills (be able to browse the Internet, download files, use email, complete online forms, use software such as MS Excel and Word).
