Through completion of this module, students will learn to:
1. Develop manageable research topics in respect of projects or dissertations.
2. Develop effective strategies for literature searching, selecting and utilising open-access and subscription-based resources where appropriate.
3. Critically evaluate research work and scholarly papers in their discipline(s) to produce high quality literature reviews.
4. Recognise the impact of ethical issues on academic research, in order to make ethical decisions in their own research practices.
5. Apply strategies to manage research data effectively and ethically at each stage of the research data life cycle.
6. Critically reflect on their own understanding and practice of research.
6 topics, covering essential learning about the research process are planned:
1. Developing a research topic;
2. Literature searching and evaluation;
3. Critical academic literacy;
4. Research ethics part 1;
5. Research ethics part 2;
6. Research data management.
