We aim with this module to make connections between national and international policies and discourses on migration, asylum, race and ethnicity and the experiences of the people whose lives are affected by them. The main context is Ireland, but we include perspectives and experiences from Europe and beyond, connecting Ireland to a broader world.

Learning Outcomes:

On completing the module, students should be able to 1) critically discuss the relationship between race, racism, ethnicity and immigration; 2) critically analyse issues concerning citizenship, immigration and cultural diversity in Ireland, and beyond, in relation to race and ethnicity; 3) demonstrate knowledge of how policies and discourses in relation to immigration, race and ethnicity affect the well-being and life chances of immigrants and others who are affected by them.
