SOC40800 Everyday Nationhood in Comparative Perspective

Academic Year 2017/2018

Much of the literature on nations and nationalism has focused on the past and on the role of states and élites. In this module students will be introduced to the emerging literature on everyday nationhood; that is, the nation today in the everyday life of everyday people. The particular nations covered in the module will be limited to those in which such work is now emerging. To better understand everyday nationhood students also will be introduced to the more established literature on the sociology of everyday life. Furthermore, students will engage in a piece of practical visual research of everyday Irishness.
