This module will explore the fundamental aspects of child welfare and protection with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary working. It aims to equip professionals with the relevant skills that will enable them to develop specialised knowledge and understanding of the child protection system and their role within it.

Learning Outcomes:

Successful completion of the module will enable the student to:
Knowledge and Understanding:
To be able to discuss issues associated with the child protection system and its operation
To be able to provide a theoretical and practical basis for the performance of their role as a valuable and effective member of the health and social care team and critically evaluate both themselves and the impact of other health and social care professionals in this area.
Applying Knowledge and Understanding:
Integrate current theories of child protection and communication in their clinical reasoning.
Reflect on the social and ethical issues arising in their clinical practice.
Making Judgements:
Critically evaluate the child protection process and their role within it. This will require the handling of complex multifaceted issues in which students make judgements whilst reflecting upon the wider professional issues and the social and ethical responsibilities of their role as a professional within this area
Communication and Writing Skills:
Have the ability to critically reflect and evaluate their individual professional practice and knowledge base in order to recognise their need for CPD and lifelong learning.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Students undertaking the module will have the opportunity to engage with activities which will provide on line feedback. Additionally students will receive individual typed feedback on their assessments post submission. Students will receive verbal feedback on their individual presentation at week 7 on the same day as their delivery. This will be followed by typed feedback . Following the submission of essay assignment at week 12 students will receive individual typed feedback.
