This module is part of a pan-European Radiography Erasmus exchange programme, with the aim of facilitating all students in appreciating aspects of professional practice and culture in different European countries.

The module is the registration route for those students who travel abroad as part of the Erasmus Radiography Programme.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the Erasmus modules in their host institution:

KNOWLEDGE OUTCOMES
Successful students should be able to demonstrate understanding of:
- similarities and differences in the role of the Radiographer across Europe;
- similarities and differences in Radiographer education across Europe;
- the concepts delivered within the curriculum specified by the host institution;

SKILL OUTCOMES
Successful students should be able to:
- interact effectively with patients and/or staff in the hospitals and/or practical sites associated with their host institution;
- improve their capacity for independent clinical and/or practical work.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES
Successful students will:
- demonstrate enhanced awareness of how Irish Radiography relates to Radiography across Europe;
- be able to debate the level of cohesion in radiographic practice across Europe;
- develop awareness of similarities and differences in general culture across Europe;
- develop awareness of similarities and differences in professional and healthcare culture across Europe.

Indicative Module Content:

Each of the nineteen participating universities offers a different study programme, with a focus on a particular aspect of imaging and/or health care.
All of the programmes include a considerable clinical or practical component, as well as a small but intensive language element. Cultural activities are also organised to enable students to learn as much as possible about their host country.
Travelling students are expected to study the language of the host country from the point they are assigned a place so that they can communicate on a basic level during clinical placements.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Approaches to teaching and learning vary across the partner institutions. Generally students will experience some of a range of course components, including lectures, group work, discussion classes, seminars, skills labs, problem based learning and supervised clinical placement. In some centres the classes take place in groups mixed with students from the host institution, while in others, the classes are specific to incoming students from a variety of countries.
The Erasmus programme in all partner institutions is taught in English. However, during clinical placements, all students are expected to have at least a rudimentary grasp of the local language. Engagement with language training before travel is therefore imperative to success in all aspects of the Erasmus exchange.

Learning Requirements:

When places in this module exceed demand, allocation is through a competitive process involving consideration of any or all of a personal statement, previous GPA, a personal presentation or an interview.


Module Requisites and Incompatibles
Additional Information:
Students cannot take this module if they are registered for any other modules that require Semester 2 attendance, or if they are carrying modules from previous semesters where they have not achieved a pass grade.
