At the end of this module, the student should-
• Understand, describe and critically analyse current radiography and health sciences research and its applicability to clinical practice
• Refine literature searching skills and develop their ability to evaluate and critique current literature
• Understand key concepts in research design and methodologies, together with their advantages and disadvantages.
• Appreciate ethical issues in conducting different types of research and the potential implications to the research process
• Develop an in-depth understanding and be able critically analyse information sources and peer reviewed journals
• Develop an appreciation of research integrity
• Develop their critical writing, scientific presentation and referencing skills
• Understand basic statistical concepts for design and analysis of research
• Adopt a career-long, critical and positive approach to published research as the basis for evidence based good practice.
In this module students will cover:
• Introduction to current research trends in radiography
• Literature searching and critique
• Research design including principles of qualitative and quantitative research, research analysis, referencing; specific research areas and relevant methodologies
• Research ethics and integrity
• Bench to bedside research and its current challenges
