On successful completion of this module students should be able to: 1 Recognise major risk areas related to agriculture, food and related areas. 2 Understand the legal requirements surrounding the workplace environment. 3 Conduct a risk assessment and assess the safety status of a workplace environment. 4 Be able to recognise incorrect procedures regarding the use of mechanical equipment. 5 Be able to assess the economic and social impact of health.
Passing this module is a requirement for Practical Work Experience.
Key topics that will be addressed include: work place fatalities and accidents; work place safety; legislation and insurance information; risk assessment; manual handling; health; chemical and laboratory safety and practical sessions.
