● Situate the development of systemic therapy in a historical context.
● Develop knowledge on systemic theory and practice (including psychotherapeutic process, theory and methods of assessment, formulation and intervention and theory of change)
● Critically examine and compare different family therapy approaches and different non-systemic psychotherapeutic approaches
● Understand social and cultural issues, and theories of human development in relation to psychotherapy.
● Understand FTAI (Family Therapy Association of Ireland) ’s code of ethics.
● Identify the role of research and different research paradigms and methods in systemic practice.
Topics covered in the sessions will include Systemic Theories and Practices (Structural, Strategic and Milan Theory and Practice), Introduction to Social Constructionism, Collaborative Therapy, Socio-cultural, Ethical, Equality & Diversity issues in Systemic Practice, and an introduction to Research in Systemic Practice. This module will also include a systemic understanding of Human Development, and other approaches to Psychopathology and Psychotherapy.
