1. Demonstrate an advanced and detailed knowledge of current physiotherapy practice in the specialties of women's and men's health, paediatrics, dermatology and wound management, occupational physiotherapy and ergonomics and health technology
2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the role of the physiotherapist in these specialist areas within the multidisciplinary context in different healthcare environments.
3. Discuss and justify physiotherapy management strategies for these specialities with an emphasis on evidence based practice.
4. Review and analyze current literature in the above specialties in a self-directed and autonomous manner.
The module is designed to integrate and advance students’ knowledge relating to specialist areas of physiotherapy practice. Specialist topics covered include:
- Paediatric physiotherapy: the role of physiotherapy in early childhood intervention, haematology and oncology, orthopaedics, obesity, DCD and dyspraxia, intellectual disability
-Women and men’s health: the role of physiotherapy in antenatal and postnatal care, pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic girdle pain and incontinence management.
-Dermatology and wound care: the role of physiotherapy in wound management, lymphoedema, burns
-Occupational physiotherapy and ergonomics.
-Connected Health: The emerging role of the physiotherapist in health technology
